“Upcycling can be so much more than painting and upholstering. For me, part of the fun of upcycling is in the details. By sourcing quirky drawer pulls from independent interior stores, or finding the perfect cabinet legs to transform an unloved piece, you create something personal and unique, that you can continue to develop as your tastes change.

If you fancy bringing something completely different into your home, think about new purposes for old pieces. Start by trawling junk shops and online marketplaces to find exciting upcycling opportunities. For example, church pews can be a great statement for an entrance hall – you can polish or distress yourself, and add soft cushions to fit with the rest of your home’s style.

Whatever project you decide to take on, the best pieces will come from experimentation and taking risks. You can always repaint and replace parts. It’s about embracing your creativity, as well as reusing and recycling.”
