‘Festive’ Tips for your Home
It’ll come as no surprise that when selling a property, first impressions are made almost immediately, with studies saying that buyers decide if they like somewhere within only 30 seconds of arriving. Aside from keeping front gardens tidy, rooms smelling fresh, and clutter tucked away, here we offer some ‘festive’ ideas to improve your home, or make your space more saleable.
Make a house a ho ho home
It’s typical to display photos of family and friends, but have you thought about other ways to personalise your décor? Why not frame postcards from holiday destinations? Dried flowers are very trendy right now – if you receive a bouquet for a special occasion, to make the memory last, dry them and put in a statement vase, press individual flowers for an arty piece, or photograph, add a filter, print, and frame.
Sleep in heavenly peace
To maintain a serene and calm atmosphere where you lay your head, try to furnish your bedroom in neutral colours such as white, cream, and beige. Use natural materials including rope, hessian, woods, and wicker. Warm lighting will be easier on the eyes, giving you a soft glow to wake up and fall asleep in, rather than harsh brightness.
Let it grow, let it grow, let it grow
Is a home ever really complete without house plants!? Think of them as beloved pets that don’t need to be walked, fed, or entertained – just watered. They add a touch of nature, helping to bring the outdoors in, all the more essential when living in an apartment. If you have a windowless room, for example a cloakroom, there are some hyper-realistic artificial plants available these days.
Dye Hard
If you’ve had the same interior design style for a while, or just fancy a colour scheme change, have you considered dying soft furnishings? If you have a particular item that you’re attached to, or that fits into a space perfectly, change the colour instead of the entire piece. A red tablecloth may not work with your new green décor, but pop in some dye, and now it does! This is especially useful if renting, as full redecoration isn’t always an option.
Deck the walls
Wall panelling is a hugely popular look, but can be costly and difficult to implement. Why not try your hand at a painted shape on the wall, perhaps in place of a bulky headboard, or to highlight feature shelving? Retro detailing like dado and picture rails will also add interest to bare walls.
Doorbells ring, are you listening?
Do you own a video doorbell? There are a few different brands on the market, all of which provide security, and convenience. If you’re Christmas shopping online, you can easily tell the driver where to store important deliveries through the camera system. If you’re spending lots of time away during the festive season, you’ll be able to keep an eye on your home, making sure that it’s safe whilst you’re gone.
